The Ghanaian defender has underperformed in the Bundesliga and the club's hierarchy has given him the last chance to redeem himself at pre-season or will be sold.
Opare joined Augsburg's pre-season training camp on Monday morning after he was loaned out to French Ligue 2 side RC Lens in January.
He failed to make any appearance for the side since January when he sustained an injury on his debut against Olympic Nimes.
Opare was however linked with a move English side Birmingham City - following the appointment of Jeff Vetere as director of football.
The new Blues official has worked in various roles at Charlton, West Ham, Fulham, Aston Villa and even Real Madrid during his time in football.
And, when he was at Los Blancos, he brought Opare to the club to play for Real Madrid Castilla - when the right-back was one of the most exciting teenagers in the game.
It never clicked for the La Liga side, but Opare enjoyed an impressive spell at Standard Liege which subsequently led to moves to Porto, Besiktas and now Augsburg.
Opare's contract with Augusburg ends in 2018.
